Students Who are Not Citizens or Permanent Residents of Canada
Living Earth School courses are open to students who are not Canadian citizens or permanent residents. Tuition fees for foreign students are the same as those for Canadian students (all fees are in Canadian funds). Most foreign students wishing to study at Living Earth School must have a valid Study Permit issued by Citizenship and Immigration Canada. Note that nationals from non-visa exempt countries also require a Temporary Entry Visa to enter Canada.

The general rule is that a foreign student will need a Study Permit to study in Canada. The law does not describe courses for which a Study Permit is needed; however, a Study Permit is generally required for studies undertaken at a University or College and for courses of academic, professional or vocational training. There are however, a number of notable exceptions to this rule - a Study Permit is not required for a student taking a course or program in Canada of a duration of six months or less. This provision is not subject specific, and as such some shorter Living Earth School courses do not require a Study Permit. However, such courses must be completed within the authorized period of the individual's stay in Canada.

Foreign students applying for the professional program do require a Study Permit. All applicants for Study Permit must satisfy a Canadian Visa Office of the following basic requirements:
1. They will leave Canada at the conclusion of their studies;
2. They have been accepted by a Canadian educational institution;
3. They have funds sufficient during their stay in Canada to pay for tuition fees, living expenses, and return transportation, and
4. They are not criminally/medically inadmissible to Canada.

In applying for a Study Permit the foreign student should provide:

A completed Application for Study Permit (IMM 1294)

Proof of Acceptance at Living Earth School- Living Earth School will provide this letter post registration and upon request. Note that most Visa Office's require an original of the acceptance letter.

A Passport - valid beyond the course duration;

Two recent passport-size photos for the applicant and each accompanying family member (where applicable) - the name and date of birth of the person should be written on the back of each photo.

Proof of Financial Support - Evidence that the applicant can support him or herself and any accompanying family members while studying in Canada. Such evidence may include a combination of the following:
  • A letter or Bank Statement from a Canadian bank account in the applicant's name (where monies have been transferred to Canada);
  • Recent Bank Statements;
  • A bank draft in convertible currency;
  • Proof of payment of tuition and residence fees;
  • Proof of funding paid from within Canada (where the applicant is the recipient of scholarship or are in a Canadian-funded educational program).
Fee Payment - Please check as procedures may differ from Visa Office to Visa Office.

Applications are typically submitted to the Visa Office in the applicant's country of citizenship or lawful residence. Where a Temporary Resident Visa is also required the applications are usually made in tandem to a Visa Office abroad.
